REVIEW: Alien vs. Predator - After years of rumor and speculation, the long awaited Alien vs. Predator has finally arrived. Was it worth the wait? Well, lets examine the movie. Written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, best known for Mortal Kombat 1, and Resident Evil 1, there must have been a lot of pressure on him to make this movie work. Going into this movie, I was expecting a sub-par experience, everything I had heard so far was negative, and the PG-13 rating didnt help matters much, but what i got was a surprisingly fun movie experience. I wont go into story detail, rather direction, execution and acting. First off, as a director, Paul Anderson has gotten much better, he had some nice camera angles, and his shots were well composed, movement was fluid, and you could easily see what was happening in the fight scenes. The costumes were very well done, and the special effects were also nicely executed. The acting was very much acceptable, with Lance Henriksen making an appearance (not a short one mind you), fans of the Alien series will be happy to see him onscreen. I don't know the names of any of the other actors, but I was satisfied with their performances and have no complaints in this area. My biggest complaint with this movie is the PG-13 rating. The Alien and Predator movies have all been rated R. These are two violent species we're dealing with here, ruthless killers, and thats something we didnt get to see much of, which disappointed me greatly. I have a feeling though that when this comes out on DVD, it will no doutb be an unrated director's cut which will problably correct that PG-13 rating problem. All in all, the movie was an enjoyable experience. Just don't go in expecting the greatest action movie ever, and you should be fine. Heres a tip, pick up the special edition version of Predator 1 on DVD, as it comes with a free ticket to see Alien vs. Predator, not a bad value, it will make your movie experience harder to be disappointing.
